Mountains to Sea – 2 Hour Okarito Trig Track $40 pp/under 16 $20

Beginning with an introduction into the life and times of Okarito, we depart the historic Donovan’s Store and village and head into the rainforest on the recently refurbished “Trig Track”.  This historic track takes us through coastal rainforest of ferns and mosses, bird song and giant rimu and kahikatea trees to a magnificent lookout of the Okarito Lagoon, surrounding forest, the Okarito and North Beaches and Tasman Sea and the Southern Alps.

Coastal Rainforest – 3.5 Hour Three Mile Lagoon$65 pp/under 16 $30

Once home to hundreds of people, Three Mile Lagoon now lays peacefully beneath the Southern Alps offering home and shelter to none other than little blue penguins and native birds.  Departing Donovan’s Store, we embark on a route once taken by Jim Donovan himself on this historic track of the 1800’s.  We wind our way through coastal rainforest with remarkable views out over the Tasman Sea from the tops of the bluffs until we reach Three Mile Lagoon.  After a relaxing and rejuvenating break with refreshments, we return along the beach beneath the towering bluffs, watching for oyster catchers, New Zealand fur seals and sometimes Hector’s Dolphins playing in the waves.

All walks depart from and return to Donovan’s Store in the centre of Okarito Village on The Strand. Please check in 15 minutes prior to departure.
